Revenue during the quarter went down marginally by 1.48 percent to $349 million from $354.23 million in the previous year period. Gross margin for the quarter expanded 74 basis points over the previous year period to 36.47 percent. Total expenses were 94.54 percent of quarterly revenues, down from 96.60 percent for the same period last year. This has led to an improvement of 206 basis points in operating margin to 5.46 percent.

Operating income for the quarter was $19.06 million, compared with $12.04 million in the previous year period.

However, the adjusted EBITDA for the quarter stood at $50.64 million compared with $46.98 million in the prior year period. At the same time, adjusted EBITDA margin improved 125 basis points in the quarter to 14.51 percent from 13.26 percent in the last year period.

In discussing the Company’s results for the quarter, Joseph C. Bartolacci, president and chief executive officer, stated "The Company’s operating results for the quarter were in line with our expectations and are a good start to fiscal 2017. Our cemetery memorial products sales were strong during the quarter, which reflected an increase in pre-need sales. In addition, we continued to see sales growth for our merchandising display projects and in the U.K. and Asia Pacific brand markets for our SGK Brand Solutions segment."
